Never Question God.

People always say you should never question God. But all my life I've been told if you don't understand something, especially after your research, it's okay to ask. So I wanted to ask you guys a question about something, a friend and I recently had. A conversation about--the "tests" God gives us and how it makes us, closer to him, more thankful for our existence, and his grace and mercy.

The question posed is, why does he need (not so much deserve-I understand why he deserves) so much praise, why is he a "jealous God". We are taught to do things because we want to do them out of love or necessity, not because we want the admiration and recognition. That seems to contradict that teaching. He created all this (the universe and all in it) so we would worship him and thank him for his grace and mercy. Does that not make you wonder what that's about? Or is it one of those things that you just accept and follow according.?

And I'm not trying to challenge the word of God. I'm asking genuinely.
